Services

At Maysville Physical Therapy, we take pride in creating personalized treatment plans. We understand that every patient suffering from aches and pains will need individualized attention. We take the time to explain the steps of their treatment to them, so that they are aware of the benefits that come from our exercises and techniques.

Services we offer include, but are not limited to:

  • Palpation – the therapist will touch around the area where you are having pain. This allows her to check for the presence of tenderness, swelling, soft tissue integrity, tissue temperature & inflammation.

  • Muscle Testing – the therapist will check your strength and how well your muscle contractions are. They will make notes of any pain or weakness. As part of a neurological screening, your muscle strength will be graded.

  • Posture Assessment – the position of your joints will be assessed.

  • Gait Analysis – the therapist can draw a lot of conclusions from visually examining someone walk, and focusing on their lower back, hip, knee, ankle and foot while they walk. Many foot problems, as well as low back, hip, and knee problems are caused by gait abnormalities.

  • Mobilization – is usually prescribed to help a patient increase their mobility, delay stiffness, and relieve pain. The therapist will use hands-on therapeutic procedures to increase soft tissue and joint mobility.

  • Active Range of Motion (AROM) – the patient will lift or move a body part through the range of motion against gravity. This is generally the service prescribed for those suffering from arthritis.

  • Passive Range of Motion (PROM) – either the patient or therapist will move the body part through a range of motion without the use of the muscles that usually move the joint.

  • Stretching/Flexibility Exercise – With the use of stretching, the patient will lengthen their muscle(s) and soft tissue. Stretching helps to improve flexibility of muscles that have tightened because of disuse.

  • Neurological Screening – the therapist will examine how your nerves are communicating with your muscles, sensing touch, pain and more. They may also review your reflexes.

  • Special Tests – the therapist may need to perform special tests to see if you have the presence of other problems that you are not aware of.

  • Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) – electrical stimulation is used to help improve strength and decrease pain & any swelling.

  • Stationary Bicycle – The use of a stationary bike is usually prescribed for those needing to improve their strength and/or range of motion of their lower back or lower body parts, as well as for cardiovascular endurance.

  • Cervical Traction – This is where the therapist will pull gently on the longitudinal/axial area of the neck to help relieve neck pain and decrease muscle spasms & facilitate unloading of the spine.

  • Ultrasound – The high frequency sound wave emitted from an ultrasound causes vibrations of water molecules deep within a person's tissue, causing a heating effect. This helps with nutrition exchange at the cellular level and helps with healing. Ultrasound is helpful for ligament healing, for carpal tunnel and muscle spasms.

  • Iontophoresis – Medications are introduced through the skin through an electrical charge. This works on the concept that charges repel each other, meaning a positively charged medication will be repelled through the skin to the patient's tissues by the positively charged pad of an iontophoresis machine. This service is generally recommended for shoulder or elbow injuries.
